Need a woodworking workbench yet not sure what to do? Then check out this Two Day Build a Workbench Workshop led by John Madden where participants build a functional, sturdy and affordable workbench perfect for hand tool woodworking. 
 
What happens in the workshop?
 
This practical experience takes you through the whole process of building your very own wooden workbench from start to finish. John will guide you through a series of processes including:
 
Setting up and using woodworking machinery
Joining the top
Marking out and cutting the joinery
Building the base frame
Making a tool well
Assembling the bench and fixing the top
 
John will also guide you on your choice of vice and other accessories.
 
By the end of this workshop you will have built your very own workbench and also developed several key woodworking skills that you can take forward on your woodworking journey. 
 
About the Workbench
 
If you want to do woodwork then you need a workbench that is functional and sturdy. And if you are new to woodworking, you probably also want a workbench that is affordable. This workbench designed by John Madden is all of these, PLUS, it's a compact bench designed specifically for smaller home workshops and garages.
 
The bench is built entirely from construction pine fixed together using 100mm steel bolts. The benchtop is 80mm thick making it perfect for handtool woodworking. This bench will accept a variety of front vices and will also accommodate a HNT Gordon Tailvice and dogholes. The tool well is great for storing wedges, packers and other accessories, it also stops items rolling off the bench! This is the perfect bench for anyone wanting to work with handtools at home.

You don't need Roube bench to get into woodworking, you just need something that works.
 
How long is the workshop?
 
This bench build is a two day workshop held over the weekend of Saturday & Sunday December 14 & 15. Each day starts at 9.00am and concludes at 4.00pm. Places in the class are limited to 4 so you are assured to receive all the support you may need. Refreshments are provided, please bring your own lunch.
 
Do I need tools or equipment?
 
All tools, materials and templates are supplied. The workshop fee does not include vices or other accessories of any kind. Wood Play Studio recommends all participants wear sturdy shoes and clothes suitable for woodworking. Participants in this class must be well enough to stand for several hours at a time lifting 2kg with each arm. Participants must provide their own PPE including ear and eye protection.
 
Who is John Madden
 
John is a woodworker and designer who works with a range of materials including solid timber and composites. John has worked on a diverse range of projects including custom furniture, hotel and super yacht interiors. John is an experienced instructor who is passionate about sharing his knowledge and helping you develop your craft skills.
